Winter Sports Day Chapelfield

Posted February 24th, 2010 by Norfolk Ski Club

On Saturday 20th February, Norfolk Ski Club took part in an unusual event which bought a taste of the Winter Olympics to City shoppers.

Early arrivals to the Chapelfield shopping centre came across a hive of activity as a dry slope and an ice rink were being erected in Chapelfield Plain. By 8am the group of volunteers from Norfolk Ski Club turned up to set out the skis, boots and boards and generally get ready to man the dry slope.

Des Coe, Paul Spooner and Jim Sivyer put their heads together and, with some advice from the Club freestyle riders, devised a launch pad at the top of the slope which gave enough momentum to allow riders to grind the rails.

Pumping music from the Radio Norfolk DJ helped Club riders put on a great display for the admiring public. The big screen organisers placed a camera at the bottom of the slope so all the action was streamed, live, to the big screen situated over the entrance to the shopping centre.

Slope maintenance update

Posted January 27th, 2010 by Norfolk Ski Club

Slope maintenance has taken a positive step forward as cleaning of the fun park began on Monday (We have already completed cleaning of the intermediate slope late last year). Once the fun park is finished the nursery slope will be started.

A future contract for mogul refurbishment is being finalised and will start when Britton engineering can fit it into their very busy schedule. Ongoing work will not affect other slope use. Will will keep you posted on further progress.
