Guidelines for dealing with an Accident

GUIDELINES FOR DEALING WITH AN INCIDENT/ACCIDENT AT NORFOLK SKI CLUB
FOR INSTRUCTORS, COACHES, CLUB OFFICIALS AND VOLUNTEERS
The first aid kit can be found behind the reception desk. Please make your self familiar with its contents.
First aid may only be given by a first aider with a current certificate

In the event of an accident/incident, you should:

•Stay calm but act swiftly and observe the situation.

•Is there danger of further injuries? Consider switching off the main lift but in any event guide other slope users away from the injured person, use other people on the slope to assist with this and/or cone off the area. You may also need to get the sprinklers switched off

•Listen to what the injured person is saying.

• All instructors must have a current first aid certificate. If you are not qualified alert a first aider who should take appropriate action for minor injuries.

•In the event of an injury requiring specialist treatment, ask the office to contact the emergency services

•If on a lesson deal with the rest of the group and ensure that they are adequately supervised. Beginners on the nursery slope can be asked to sit down to avoid any accidental sliding.

•Do not move someone with major injuries.

•Wait for the emergency medics.

•Contact the injured person’s parent/carer.

•Complete an incident/accident report form. Accident book is in the club reception
